WHITESBURG, KY — double kwik’s fueling the future foundation recently awarded $32,500 in scholarships to high school graduates who reside in counties in which double kwik stores are located. Applicants submitted scholarship applications based on how they exemplify the company’s high standards and core family values. The 65 recipients are 2023 graduates of Belfry, Betsy Lane, Breathitt, Buckhorn, Council, Floyd, Grundy, Hazard, Hurley, Jenkins, June Buchanan, Knott, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Paintsville, Perry, Phelps, Pike, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley, Twin Valley, and Wise County high schools. Each student received $500 toward their undergraduate education.

This year’s applicants were involved in both their communities and their academics. The students chosen all exemplify strong core values such as integrity and dependability as well as possessing impressive grades and involvement in community service and extracurricular activities.

The fueling the future foundation focuses on helping children of Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia achieve more through the gift of scholarships ranging from camp fees to college tuition or daily needs such as hygiene items, school supplies, clothing or even Christmas presents. With the help of local teachers, guidance counselors, family resource department and church leaders as well as an applicant process the foundation identifies children to assist.
